Anahita will present Agents of Influence: A Spy -Themed Game, designed to teach the next generation how to combat misinformation.
Anahita is co-founder and CEO of Alterea. She has been designing immersive theatre experiences since high school, including Alohomora: Unlock the Magic, a Harry Potter-themed event, and Ascend, an ancient mythology experience that was a finalist for the 2020 SXSW Innovation Awards. She is a three-time published author on achieving social impact using experiential design, including the articles "Disney: Castles, Kingdoms and (No) Common Man" in JTEAS and "Designing An Adventure” in the Carnegie Mellon University’s Well Played Journal and has been featured in multiple publications including Authority Magazine and ThriveGlobal’s “Dreamers” and “Future of Games” series. She is also an associate faculty member at the Media Education Lab and on the Board of Advisors for The Game Academy.
Join us to hear from Friendly Vang-Johnson of Friendly Hmong Farms. She will speak about her experiences starting a social enterprise business to support Black and Brown farmers, youth, and communities by organizing 50+ volunteers.
Friendly manages Friendly Hmong Farms, leveraging her 20+ years of experience in social justice work. Her understanding of the intersection between food sovereignty, land reparations, and racial justice was shaped by a childhood growing up in the Frogtown neighborhood, farming in the summers, and at the markets with her mom, Xia, in Minnesota. She holds a master’s degree in public policy and also works as a federal performance auditor helping to ensure that public policies serve everyone, especially communities of color. She sees her participation in Friendly Hmong Farms as the culmination of her activism as an advocate and community organizer. She is a mom of four and an auntie to eight others.
