Jairul Rahaman, PhD is the past President of the Snohomish Country Mycological Society in Everett, WA. She is considered a Citizen Scientist, who loves being outdoors especially after the rain when various mushrooms display their colorful caps above the ground.
Byron and Inez Ahina, originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, were challenged by a local church official in 2004 to begin a home building ministry in Yucatan. Since then, while huricanes have left many without food, work or adequate shelter, they have been serving in Yucatan. Now, Covid is complicating their work.
Over the years, they have acted as liaisons between churches, groups from the U.S., and local congregations in Yucatán, building homes and water plants, and helping provide medical services to rural areas. Their website details their work, https://www.yucatanhelpinghands.org. Today's presentation will give us an overview of this mission of compassion in the face of hurricanes and Covid.
